How to play Sungka
- Each of the fourteen small holes starts with seven shells. Collect more shells in your large store than your opponent.
- Choose a non-empty hole on your side and distribute its shells one at a time around the board, including your own store but skipping your opponent’s store.
- If the final shell lands in an occupied small hole, pick up that hole's shells and continue distributing (relay sowing).
- If the final shell lands in your store, you get another turn.
- If it lands in a previously empty hole on your side, capture the opposite hole's shells plus your final shell. If it lands in a previously empty hole on the other side, your turn ends.
- This introductory single-round version finishes when either side has no playable shells. Remaining shells are credited to their owner; the higher store score wins.
Traditional Sungka has regional variations, including simultaneous opening moves and multiple rounds with closed (“sunog”) holes. This edition uses an introductory single-round ruleset; traditional multi-round play with sunog holes is still planned.
